Twinkle Khanna shares her thoughts on Huma Qureshi’s Maharani, ‘It has me grabbed’

Twinkle Khanna, an actor-turned-author, has been watching the new SonyLIV series Maharani, starring Huma Qureshi, and has strongly recommended it to everyone. Twinkle hailed Huma’s acting as “simply wonderful” and termed the tale “interesting.”

“I’ve been watching a drama called Maharani on SonyLIV and it has me gripped,” Twinkle remarked in an Instagram video. Huma Qureshi portrays an ignorant housewife who rises to become the Chief Minister. And I found it fascinating to witness a woman who could not only maintain her footing but also dominate the social and political arena.”

“The way they’ve employed the tiniest of elements… I was watching how, at first, her ghoonghat totally covers her, but as the show proceeds, it gradually falls behind, till it barely covers her bun. These small details, in my opinion, offer reality while also showing me a journey. It’s an interesting narrative, and Huma is fantastic as the Maharani. This was an absolute must-see for me!” she added.

Twinkle posted on Instagram, “Totally worth the binge!” An engrossing storey about ambition and power, including outstanding performances, particularly by @iamhumaq. You’ve got this, girl! @sonylivindia @sonylivinternational #MaharaniOnSonyLIV.”

Huma plays Rani Bharti, an ignorant housewife thrown into the world of politics after an attempted attack on her husband Bheema Bharti, in Subhash Kapoor’s Maharani (Sohum Shah). The show follows her transformation from a country bumpkin to a force to be reckoned with.

Maharani is said to be inspired by Rabri Devi, the wife of former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who took over as chief minister after husband stepped down due to his part in the ongoing investigation into the fodder scandal. Huma, on the other hand, insisted that the show is a work of fiction.

“It’s not based on a real-life politician or anything like that. It is all made up. People have made conclusions simply because it is Bihar. There were no references to look at because our show is purely fictional,” she told PTI.
