Tony Khan Announces The Official Closing Of The ROH Acquisition

Tony Khan’s acquisition of the long-running wrestling promotion Ring of Honor was a major story earlier this year. He revealed the big news during the March 2, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite and promised fans that the ROH legacy will be preserved with this new chapter.

Tony Khan, the owner of AEW/ROH, has now taken to social media to announce that the final sale has been completed and everything is now official.

It’s Wednesday, which indicates #AEWDynamite is LIVE on @TBSNetwork later this evening at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT! It’s a topped card, plus my first day with a @ringofhonor owner (the purchase just shut), and we’ll throne an undisputed ROH Women’s Championship! Thank you for all those who are watching Dynamite Tonight, Tony says on Twitter.

Tony Khan stated previously that the official statement was not about any specific talent development, but rather about a new business contract for AEW that’d decide the future of the both brand names. He lately stated that the reason he was keeping the details private was because the AEW legal team had him under NDAs until everything was finalised.

Joe Koff, retired Chief Operating Officer for Ring of Honor, clarified how current individuals involved in the company were excited to see Tony take over in a press release issued the night of the announcement.

A dream match for Wednesday’s Dynamite

Over the past 20 years, Ring of Honor has produced some of the best professional wrestlers, but even more notably, it has formed a family. I would be forever thankful to everybody in the ROH community who has worked extremely hard for the past 2 decades to hold ROH to previously unseen heights, said Joe Koff. Tony has the highest regard and admiration for Ring of Honor, and I’m eager seeing how he wants to continue the legacy.

Tony Khan, President, CEO, General Manager, and Head of Creative for AEW, has announced a dream match for Wednesday’s Dynamite on TBS. Khan revealed Rey Fenix vs. Dante Martin together in qualifying tournament for The Owen Hart Foundation Men’s game on Twitter recently.

The victor of Fenix vs the Martin and Jeff Hardy vs. Bobby Fish at Wednesday’s Dynamite will join Darby Allin, ROH World Television Title holder Samoa Joe, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, as well as ROH World Tag Team and also AAA Tag Team Champion Dax Harwood in the men’s game. Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, Hikaru Shida, Red Velvet, Ruby Soho, and Britt Baker are the six confirmed entrants for The Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament as of this writing.

The competitions for 8-man and 8-woman teams are set to begin on May 11 just at AEW Dynamite from the UBS Arena in Long Island, NY. The championship game will be held on May 29 at AEW Double Or Nothing, with Dr. Martha Hart on hand to manifest the Owen Cup trophy to the champions live.
