Tonight’s AEW Dynamite Opening Match will feature CM Punk

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite on TBS will feature CM Punk vs. Dax Harwood. Tony Khan, AEW President, CEO, General Manager, and Head Of Creative, took to Twitter this afternoon to announce that he had gotten a doctor’s injury report that was better than expected, allowing him to declare Punk vs. Harwood as tonight’s openers.

“One of the hottest crowds we have here in Austin is the @AEW supporters. We have a fantastic team here who are all very enthusiastic. I recently received the doctor’s injury report, and it was better than I had hoped. In a few minutes, I’ll add a significant match to tonight’s #AEWDynamite programme,” Khan stated. “We have an amazing sold out audience here in Austin, and tonight we’ll start Dynamite hot with an awesome wrestling match: @CMPunk vs. @DaxFTR #AEWDynamite LIVE on @TBSNetwork @ 8pm ET/7pm CT TONIGHT!” he wrote in a follow-up tweet.

  • In the opener, CM Punk takes on Dax Harwood, in Punk’s first match since defeating MJF at Revolution.
  • Thunder Rosa, the new AEW Women’s World Champion, will make an appearance, as will Adam Cole vs. Jay Lethal, and Red Velvet vs. Leyla Hirsch in their 1-1 Rubber Match, with Kris Statlander barred from ringside.
  • MJF talks for the very first time after costing Wardlow the TNT Title
  • Chris Jericho and Daniel Garcia vs. John Silver and Alex Reynolds in a Tornado Tag Team Match
  • Private Party, The Butcher, and The Blade vs. The Hardys, Sting, and Darby Allin in a Tornado Tag Team Match

It’s Punk’s first fight since defeating MJF in a Dog Collar battle earlier this month at AEW Revolution. Harwood will be competing during his first AEW encounter since the Tag Team Battle Royale and Casino Tag Team Royale bouts earlier this month. FTR had previously lost to Punk and Jon Moxley on the Dynamite event on February 9.
