Tom Holland revealed In this film, he hated Benedict Cumberbatch’s role

Tom Holland recently admitted in his new film The Power of the Dog that he despised his Spider-Man: No Way Home co-star Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch plays a rancher in 1925 who brutalizes everyone around him until he is exposed to the possibility of love.

Cumberbatch’s portrayal of rancher Phil Burbank was widely thought to have included some method acting. Cumberbatch has admitted that in order to play the character, he went without showering for a long time. Cumberbatch is also said to have had nicotine poisoning from all of the actual, hand-rolled cigarettes he smoked while filming on many occasions. Fortunately for Cumberbatch, his method of acting appears to have paid off, as many people have praised his transformation in the film.

Spider-Man was one of the many who was blown away by Cumberbatch’s performance. Holland spoke with Cumberbatch about his experience working on the new Netflix film The Power of the Dog. When Holland first saw the film, he despised Cumberbatch, he said (or rather, he hated the rancher Cumberbatch was portraying). Holland described Cumberbatch’s character as “terrible and so, simply, grotesque and evil,” according to Screenrant. “When I meet you at the beginning of the film, I’m like, ‘Whoa, that’s not the Benedict I know,” Tom told Screenrant. ‘What the hell is going on?’ I actually, like, despised you for the first time in my life.

I thought you were horrible, disgusting, and awful. What I liked about the picture as it continued was that it deal with toxic masculinity and gaslighting, but it did it in a way that investigated the issue rather than simply presenting it.”

Cumberbatch’s performance has a lot of heart and emotion. According to the actor, he was so dedicated to fully embodying his role on set of The Power of the Dog that he and co-star Kirsten Dunst refused to speak to each other.
