The Google-owned video sharing platform YouTube recently brought into effect a very controversial change! The dislikes on any YouTube video are no longer visible to the public! YES, you read that right! YouTube has removed it’s age-old dislike button from videos and hid the dislike count from public.
Many influencers have spoken out about the decision. Streamer xQc said that it was a ‘moronic mistake’ while Asmongold was not very happy either.
Why Did YouTube Remove The Dislike Count?
Why did YouTube hide the dislike numbers in the first place? According to YouTube, this move will prevent harassments and dislike attacks by viewers. At times, due to external factors, many viewers rush to dislike the video even if the video was good. This is known as dislike attack, or dislike bomb, which YouTube is trying to avoid.
“We want to create an inclusive and respectful environment where creators have the opportunity to succeed and feel safe to express themselves,” YouTube explained.
However, this new update does not mean that you cannot see the number of dislikes on a video! It is possible to do so with this one SIMPLE HACK! All you need to do is install an extension on your browser and you’re good to go.
How To Bring It Back?
The plug-in is called ‘Return YouTube Dislike’ which allows users to see the actual number of dislikes on any YouTube video. The steps are as follows:
- Install [if not already] Google Chrome
- Visit the Chrome Web Store
- Install ‘Return YouTube Dislike‘
There is a chance that YouTube/Google will remove this plug-in in the future, as it goes against their plans for the change, but for now, it’s fully functional and will bring back one of the platform’s best metrics.
