Joe Henderson, the showrunner for Lucifer, reveals why God exiled Lucifer from Heaven. The fantasy tale recounts the life of the Devil after he was driven out of Heaven and left Hell to move to Los Angeles, based on the DC Comics character created by Neil Gaiman for The Sandman, who later became the basis of a spin-off comic book. The show debuted on Fox in 2016 and ran for three seasons before being cancelled, but it was given a second shot after Netflix bought it up for two more seasons. Lucifer was supposed to conclude after season 5, but the showrunners and lead actor signed new deals for a sixth season.
Season 5’s first half will be available on Netflix in August 2020. Season 5B premiered on Netflix on Friday, nine months after the first half, and follows Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) as he battles his scheming twin brother, the Archangel Michael, who is also played by Ellis.
With the arrival of their father God (Dennis Haysbert) and his declaration that he is retiring in the hopes that one of his sons will succeed him, the two brothers compete to see who will succeed him. With the sixth and final season approaching and Lucifer’s journey nearing completion, a long-standing mystery from the beginning of the show has finally been answered.
Season 5 has been one of the more spectacular seasons, with the primary draw being the fight between the two brothers. Season 5 finished with all the angels kneeling down to Lucifer, letting him realise he is now the genuine God after Lucifer won the war and took God’s position. Season 6 is believed to be more of a love letter to the show, finishing up Lucifer’s journey in an emotional way, according to the showrunners.
