The first test between India and Sri Lanka played at Mohali was a one-sided encounter with India thrashing Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs.
Sri Lanka started their innings on day 2 after India put on mammoth 574 runs in the first innings and Lanka ended day 2 on 108/4.
Pathum Nissanka and Charith Aslanka resumed the Lankan innings on day 3. Nissanka was the lone warrior for the Lankans as he scored 63 runs and was the last man standing and he had no other batsman supporting him.
The Indian Spinners were dominant as Ravindra Jadeja rattled up the last two wickets in two successive balls and went on claim a fifer. Ravichandran Ashwin and Jaspreet Bumrah picked two wickets each while Mohammad Shami picked up a wicket as Sri Lanka end their 1st innings at 174 runs.
India enforced the follow and Sri Lanka came out to bat for the second time in the test match the Sri Lankan batsman showed no application and foot movement as Ravi Ashwin went past great Kapil Dev by picking up the wicket of Nissanka.
Nirosan Dickwella was the lone warrior in the second innings for Sri Lanka as he scored 51 runs. India bowled out Sri Lanka for 178 runs and win the test match by an innings and 222 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 4 wickets each and Mohammad Shami scalped 2 wickets.
