Red Notice has already proven to be a massive hit for Netflix, with the largest opening day of any film on the site. Red Notice, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, premiered on Netflix this weekend after a limited theatrical release the week before.

It stars Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot among a star-studded cast. Red Notice follows FBI profiler John Hartley (Johnson) as he partners up with wily art thief Nolan Booth (Reynolds) to track down an even more known thief during the COVID film festival (Gadot).

Biggest Opening Day in Netflix History

Despite receiving mixed to poor reviews from critics, Red Notice has been well received by fans, with a Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score of 92 %.

Red Notice was hailed by its performers and creators as one of the biggest – if not the biggest – original movies Netflix has ever produced in the months leading up to its release. As a result, there were great hopes for its success. While Red Notice’s limited theatrical run didn’t exactly splash the cash, its streaming figures appear to be much better.

Both Reynolds and Johnson rushed to social media on Saturday to disclose that Red Notice has the highest opening day of any Netflix film ever.

Reynolds congratulated the creative team on Twitter and joked that he was “proud to be a part of it.” “Congratulations to the entire team! I’m looking forward to Red Notice (Taylor’s Version).” Meanwhile, Johnson shared a video on social media expressing his amazement at the feat and thanked followers for making it possible.

Given that Red Notice had a significant budget, this is going to be a huge relief for Netflix. Only time will tell where the film stands among the streaming service’s top 10 most-watched films, but it appears to have earned out its own area.

Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, is now the most popular Netflix film of all time, but Red Notice could be the one to dethrone it. Although Red Notice’s record is only for one day, it has the potential to become a massive hit as more subscribers seek it out in the following weeks.
