Kim Seokjin, better known by his stage name Jin, finally made his official debut as a solo artist last month with a solo single song and accompanying music video titled The Astronaut. Suffice to say, it was more than worth the fans’ wait, which is also something that’s apparent from the impressive performance of the song on various streaming platforms. In its latest achievement, the music video for the Jin solo song has become the mv with the most days at number 1 on the Youtube global chart.
What’s interesting to note here is that the previous record for the mv with the most days at #1 on the global youtube chart was also held by Jin. Jin’s Super Tuna M/V had remained at number one for 16 days. The Astronaut broke that record by staying at #1 for 17 days.
About The Astronaut:
The Astronaut is co-written by Jin, British rock band Coldplay—who previously collaborated with BTS on “My Universe”, Norwegian DJ Kygo who produced the track with Bill Rahko, and Chris Martin’s son Moses Martin. The song is about Jin’s love for and connection to his admirers. Through the use of a repeating cosmic motif, which the band and singer both enjoy using in their songs, it addresses themes of connection and love.
‘The Astronaut’ debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 51. With this entry, the song achieved the highest debut of any Korean solo song on the Hot 100 this decade and the third-highest of all time, bested only by PSY’s ‘Gentleman’ (No. 12 in 2013) and ‘Hangover’ (No. 26 in 2014).
The single was released ahead of Jin’s military enlistment, which is scheduled to take place soon, and was referred to as “a gift to fans.”
j-hope made his solo debut before Jin and RM aka Namjoon is confirmed to the next BTS member to go solo, who will release his first full album, “Indigo” on December 2nd.
