‘Orphan Black’ star Tatiana Maslany cast as She-Hulk in new Marvel series for Disney+

Marvel has found its She-Hulk in Tatiana Maslany! The 34 year old “Orphan Black” star has been cast as the lead role in Marvel’s new series She-Hulk at Disney+. Tatiana, who played the main character in the popular sci-fi series from 2013 to 2017, will take on the role of Jennifer Walters in the upcoming Disney+ series. And her cousin is none other than Bruce Banner, The Hulk himself.

News of Maslany’s casting surprisingly comes just a few days after Marvel’s She-Hulk series announced Kat Coiro as its director. “Rick and Morty” writer and Emmy winner, Jessica Gao, who serves as executive producer and showrunner, has also been tapped to lead the writers room.

The last major character to be co-created by the late Stan Lee, She-Hulk is Jennifer Walters. A Lawyer who gains superpowers after an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk. However, unlike her cousin, when Walters hulks out, she is able to retain most of her personality, intelligence, and emotional control.

Best known for her Emmy-winning role in the critically acclaimed sci-fi show, “Orphan Black,” Maslany is also coming off her highly appreciated role in HBO’s Perry Mason opposite Matthew Rhys. On the film side, Tatiana has also appeared in projects such as “Stronger,” “Destroyer,” and “Pink Wall.” She has also performed on Broadway opposite Bryan Cranston and Tony Goldwyn in 2018’s Network.”

Maslany has also become the latest female talent to lead a Marvel project. She will be following in the footsteps of Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Scarlett Johansson in the upcoming Black Widowmovie.

“Bruce Banner is no longer the only Hulk in the MCU”

Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, who first announced “She-Hulk” at last summer’s D23 Expo, has made it his mission to diversify the MCU. “Bruce Banner is no longer the only Hulk in the MCU,” Feige told the audience at the time. “Jennifer Walters is a Hulk, she’s a lawyer, and she’s gonna star in a show unlike anything we’ve done before.”

As for Jennifer’s cousin, Bruce? Actor Mark Ruffalo, who plays The Hulk, gave Maslany a warm welcome to the MCU family, tweeting, “Welcome to the family, cuz!” Tatiana herself, has yet to comment on the news.

MCU Phase 4: Upcoming Shows

Although the start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the next few years are shaping up quite nicely for the beloved franchise. She-Hulk is one of the many live-action Marvel series planned for Disney+, that will be centering on both new heroes and familiar faces from the big-screen Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney+ is also developing shows about “Loki,” “Hawkeye,” “Ms. Marvel,” and “Moon Knight.” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” as well as “WandaVision” are expected to debut later this year.

Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon/Sam Wilson in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” shared a photo from the set the other day.
