Sullyoon of NMIXX Leaves Audience in Awe with Emotional Cover of IU’s ‘Through The Night’

Sullyoon of the rookie K-pop girl group NMIXX sang a lovely interpretation of IU’s hit 2017 single ‘Through The Night’ on JTBC’s live music YouTube series, Begin Again Open Mic. She did honor the original music in a stripped-down rendition with just guitar and piano instrumentals, stunning the tiny live crowd.

Sullyoon mentioned after the performance that she opted to cover ‘Through The Night’ since it was a song she frequently listened to and had recently learned to play on guitar. “I learned how to play it on guitar myself while singing at home, so I wanted to try singing it for everyone here to listen to,” she said.

Sullyoon also revealed during the event that she had considered preparing other songs for the performance; including Ariana Grande’s ‘Best Mistake,’ before singing a clip of the song.

Sullyoon’s performance comes only days after her bandmate; Lily performed an acoustic rendition of Clean Bandit’s ‘Symphony’ and Zara Larsson’s ‘Symphony’ on the same program.

With their distinct style and mesmerizing performances, NMIXX has made waves in the K-pop market. The band recently produced a music video for ‘Young, Dumb, Stupid,’ a B-side off their upcoming debut mini-album ‘expérgo’. Nevertheless, their agency, JYP Entertainment; had to alter the music video to remove footage of member Haewon wearing a shirt with the slogan; “C – harisma, U – niqueness, N – erve, T – talent,” popularised by drag queen RuPaul.

Fans are anxiously anticipating the release of NMIXX’s first track; ‘Love Me Like This’ as the group prepares to release their debut mini-album on March 20th. NMIXX is a K-pop group to keep an eye on because of its raw talent and breathtaking performances.
