The 79th Golden Globe Awards were held on January 9 in Beverly Hills, California. The Golden Globes is a prominent awards presentation in the United States that honours both television and film. It takes place in the run-up to the Academy Awards.
For his portrayal as Oh Il Nam in the blockbuster Netflix original series “Squid Game,” Oh Young Soo received Best Supporting Actor in Television. He was nominated for “The Morning Show” with Billy Crudup and Mark Duplass, “Succession” with Kieran Culkin, and “Ted Lasso” with Brett Goldstein.
“After hearing the news of the award, I told myself, ‘I’m a decent guy,’ for the first time in my life,” Oh Young Soo told Netflix. “Now, it’s no longer ‘us within the world,’ but it’s ‘the world within us.’” he continued. He added, “While embracing the scent of our culture and while embracing the love for my family deep in my heart, I give thanks to everyone in the world. I hope you all live beautiful lives. Thank you.”
Lee Jung Jae was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, and “Squid Game” was nominated for Best Television Series – Drama.
This year’s Golden Globes were not broadcast on television or streamed online due to Hollywood’s boycott of the awards show over allegations of corruption and a lack of diversity among members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which consists of foreign film journalists from around the world who choose the nominees and winners. The Golden Globes’ official homepage and social media pages were used to announce the winners, as the ceremony was held without an audience.
