Spider-Man: No Way Home & Matrix Resurrections On Oscars 2022 VFX Shortlist

The list contains Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections; and it comprises ten of 2021’s blockbuster films that have been chosen for a slot on the 2022 Oscars nominations list for visual effects. On February 8, 2022, the nominees will be announced.

The 93rd Academy Awards were a one-of-a-kind event; as the film industry was severely impacted by the continuing coronavirus pandemic. Due to the closure of theatres, many films had to reschedule their intended release dates; including long-awaited pictures such as Daniel Craig’s final James Bond film, No Time To Die. The Oscars were finally held on April 25, 2021, and in a COVID-19-friendly fashion, honours were given out to the best films released that year.

The public praised the majority of the 2021 Oscar winners, but all eyes were on the Best Actor Award. Many people were surprised that it was moved to the end, where the Best Picture award is usually given. Anthony Hopkins, for his remarkable performance in The Father; and the late Chadwick Boseman, for his astonishing performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom; were the two favourites to win the prize.

Many regarded this as the ideal chance to pay tribute to Boseman’s illustrious career; which was cut short due to his struggle with colon cancer; and he died in August of 2020. Anthony Hopkins won the Best Actor award for his outstanding performance as a man suffering from dementia; surprising the public who had expected Chadwick Boseman to win. Now, information about the 2022 event and nominees is beginning to circulate.

Tom Holland recently joked about Spider-Man: No Way Home getting him an Oscar

The Academy Award’s Visual Effects team has decided to list ten blockbuster films for its nominee shortlist; rather than their more customary choices of lesser-known treasures, according to The Playlist. Black Widow, Dune, Eternals, Free Guy, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Godzilla vs. Kong; No Time To Die, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings; Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections are among the films on the list. With the exception of Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy, nine of the ten films are either MCU films or reboots/continuations of iconic franchises.

The latter two films were among the most eagerly awaited films of 2021. Tom Holland recently joked about Spider-Man: No Way Home getting him an Oscar; but he’s been spot on so far. The film has already broken records and will continue to do so in the following weeks, earning accolades such as the second-largest opening weekend ever. In addition, The Matrix Resurrections; which opened in theatres Wednesday, is the latest instalment in the iconic Matrix saga. Keanu Reeves reprises his role as the renowned character Neo in this flick.

The Oscars have long been one of the most talked-about events of the year, with many people voicing their opinions on whether the winners deserved to win. Back in 1999, The Matrix won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects at the 72nd Academy Awards. The MCU, on the other hand, has been nominated for the award eleven times and has lost each time. Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections are up against stiff competition this year. Tenet, directed by Christopher Nolan, is the current winner; but it will be intriguing to see which blockbuster film receives the prize next year.
