Sony’s Spiderman Spinoff: Madame Web, Onboards The Walking Dead DP

A new team member has joined the cast of Sony’s Spider-Man series Madame Web. The member is none other than the Walking Dead’s Director of Photography Duane Manwiller. Duane has worked as a DP for five seasons of the zombie drama series Walking Dead, since 2017. He is set to contribute his great work to another project.

Seems like we have another member ready to get tangled in the Spider web.

Some of Duane’s work includes John Wick: Chapter 2, Baby Driver, The Greatest Showman, Ocean’s 8, and Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper. Manwiller’s cinematography credits include the post-apocalyptic Netflix series Daybreak and the crime drama Midnight in the Switchgrass, in addition to the 24-episode final season of The Walking Dead. Thus, his onboarding of the creative team looks promising.

Madame Web is currently under pre-production and is scheduled to release in July 2023. It is set in the shared universe of 2018’s Venom and 2022’s Morbius, directed by S.J. Clarkson whose work also includes Netflix’s Anatomy of a Scandal, Marvel’s The Defenders.

FIlming of Madame Web will begin on July 11 in Boston this year, reports suggest. The production of Madame Web is scheduled to shoot in Mexico and New York.

This would mark a female-driven spinoff version of Spiderman in the Spider universe and will narrate the story of a possible new Spiderman. The stars in this Spiderverse include Dakota Johnson who was seen in the very famous film- Fifty shades of Grey. She is presumed to be seen as either Cassandra Webb or Julia Carpenter two blind clairvoyants who are associated with the Great Web according to the Marvel comic books.

The other cast members for the film include Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced who was also seen in Transformers: The Last Knight, Tahar Rahim, and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story). These cast members’ roles have not been revealed yet.

The plot of the film also remains unknown. But, given the story of comics, Madame Web Julia Carpenter Madame Web is a member of the Order of the Web, a group of spider-heroes that has previously included Cindy Moon, a.k.a. Silk, Jessica Drew Spider-Woman, Anya Corazon Spider-Girl, and Spider-Gwen.

Fans are excited to watch this movie after witnessing the incredible Multiverse story of Spiderman: Into the Multiverse, which also has a sequel upcoming most probably next year. The story was based on Miles Moraes, another SPiderman introduced in the alternate universe. It was an animated version of Spiderman with a similar origin story.

It would be interesting to see what the Spiderverse holds for Miles Moraes and what will be the future of SpiderMan in MCU.
