So Far, Bettors Have Not Picked Paolo Banchero As Their Investment

Nearly 75% of the money wagered on the 2022–23 NBA Rookie of the Year will go to three players. Paolo Banchero, the first-round choice, is not one of them.

Betting Odds

Banchero, who was unexpectedly chosen by the Orlando Magic with the first choice, is the betting favourite for Rookie of the Year at +350. Ten percent of gamblers favour Banchero at such odds, while just 7.5 percent of BetMGM’s entire handle is staked on the former Duke star.

The largest money, though, goes to Chet Holmgren. At +400, Holmgren is the third-strongest favourite to win Rookie of the Year, receiving 17% of wagers and 25.3 % of the money. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s No. 2 overall selection on Tuesday night dazzled spectators and teammates in his Summer League debut. In just 24 minutes, Holmgren beat the Jazz easily with 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, and four assists.

Jaden Ivey of the Pistons is the only player receiving more wagers than Holmgren to win ROTY. Ivey is also receiving a lot more bets. Ivey (+600) has received over 38% of bets, and those bets account for little over 22% of the total handle. Ivey will team up in the Pistons’ backcourt with Cade Cunningham as Detroit attempts to capitalise on a good 2021–22 campaign.

Keegan Murray of the Kings is receiving close to 24 percent of the bets and is at +800 to win Rookie of the Year. Murray is receiving the highest percentage of high-stakes wagers of any player while having only placed 7% of wagers. Murray’s rapid fit in Sacramento alongside D’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis has undoubtedly caught the attention of some savvy bettors.

Jabari Smith Jr. of the Rockets is the second favourite to win Rookie of the Year at +375, and those odds are in no way alluring to gamblers. Only 3 percent of bets have been placed on Smith, and those bets account for 0.6 percent of the total. More money has been paid out to players than Smith, including Jalen Duren of the Pistons (+3000), Johnny Davis of the Wizards (+2500), and Shaedon Sharpe of Portland (+1600).

Favorites for NBA Rookie of the Year in 2022–2023 have been:
