Eric Kripke, the showrunner of The Boys, has hinted that the show’s upcoming third season will feature “a lot of madness.”
The critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series premiered in 2019 and captivated audiences with its unique and brutal take on the superhero genre. Karl Urban and Jack Quaid band up in The Boys, based on Garth Ennis’ comic book series of the same name, to take down The Seven, a group of super-powered people who are the product of a massive corporation called Vought Industries.
Under the alias Homelander, Anthony Starr leads the heroes, while Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) plays The Deep.
lots of madness in season 3
While season 1 provided the first shock factor, season 2 really knocked it out of the park with its wild and perhaps questionable sequences that established the show’s place as a true genre standout. Season 2 included a variety of weird situations, like a 50-foot whale being smashed into by a boat captained by Urban’s character, Billy, in addition to the normal craziness that fans of The Boys have come to expect.
In a shocking twist, Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (played by Claudia Doumit) was revealed to have a terrifying ability that allows her to explore people’s heads at will in the season 2 finale, casting doubt on her character’s motives after she had appeared to be an ally to Quaid’s character, Hughie.
Now, the show’s showrunner, Kripke, has spoken to TV Guide (via TV Insider) about the impending season 3 and the “madness” that fans can expect. When asked about the upcoming season, Kripke indicated that one of the episodes will include a huge superhero orgy based on one of Ennis’ specific books. The showrunner then teased that the season 3 premiere will feature one of the “craziest things anyone’s ever tried to pull off.”
Here’s the rest of Kripke’s quote:
“There’s definitely a lot of madness. It’s not a secret that we’re doing an episode about ‘Herogasm’ from the comics, which is a massive superhero orgy. And we’re doing something in the first episode that I think is definitely the craziest thing we’ve ever pulled off…and might be one of the craziest things anybody’s ever tried to pull off.”
The Boys was previously nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Outstanding Drama, and given the show’s overall success, Amazon is reportedly considering a variety of potential spin-off projects focused around The Seven and Vought Industries.
