Austin Theory is preparing for a single match at WrestleMania 38 against Pat McAfee, but it wasn’t long before he was learning the ropes at WWE’s NXT brand. The 24-year-old says that while he was there, he often sought advice from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels, who helped him understand some of the challenges of playing the WWE ring.
Austin Theory talks about Shawn Michaels advice
“We were going back and looking at the match, and I remember something he said when I first got there, I was 22 years old,” recalls Theory in an interview with TalkSPORT. “This thing was very confusing but I’m glad I got it.
“He said to me, ‘Hey, when you get out of there,’ he would say, ‘Do you have fun?’ I said, ‘Yes, I do have fun.’ in what I am trying to do in the ring.
He said, ‘You have to find out who you are and be who you are,’ but when I was 22, I had no idea who I was. So I say, ‘Wait, what? What do you mean? ’I was thinking a lot about that. I was still doing the same thing but trying to get his advice. Be yourself? Then I realized it was about a little release. Enjoy it. Everyone knows being out of the ring and being able to do promos and behind the scenes, is what makes a character.
“That is what drives people to invest. It may be like watching a movie and it is just an act all the time, you are not really related to anyone. That little funny advice he gave me at the time went a long way. But I really tried to find it because I was like, Shawn Michaels would not just say this to me. “
Austin Theory on his experience with Brock Lesnar
Speaking to Talksport about the area, Theory said Lesnar is the strongest man they have ever faced in the ring. Vince McMahon’s player said he was amazed at how WWE Champion played the game before he responded.
“Lesnar is definitely the strongest person I’ve met in the ring. I’m a 225lb guy and I was flat on my stomach and next thing I know I’m just flying through the air. I’m like ‘did you want any help!?! Never mind!’’
The much-anticipated Austin Theory match against Pat McAfee is currently set to go down for two nights of WWE WrestleMania 38.
