Shawn Mendes will contribute his voice to the upcoming Sony animated film ‘Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile’

In a new Sony film, Shawn Mendes will play an animated crocodile! Sony announced recently that the Treat You Better singer would be lending his voice to the titular character from the children’s book Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. Bernard Waber’s bestselling book was published in 1965, and the much-anticipated musical adaption is based on it.

The plot follows Lyle, New York’s happiest crocodile, who spends his days doing daily tasks and playing with the Primms’ children and lives with them in their home. When a neighbor advises that Lyle lives in a zoo instead, his life takes a sharp turn. According to Sony’s official synopsis, “Mr. Grumps and his cat, Loretta, despise crocodiles, and Lyle’s attempts to convince them to change their minds seem to boomerang. Lyle’s charm — and courage — will be required to unveil the hero and friend hiding behind the big crocodile smile.”

Javier Bardem as Hector P. Valenti, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, and Scoot McNairy as The Primms, and Brett Gelman as Mr. Grumps are among the cast members joining Mendes on this project.

Songs from Oscar-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who are most known for their work on La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen, will also be featured in the film. The film is written by Will Davies and directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon.

Apart from executive producers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, Mendes has also contributed to the film’s song composition.
