Shailene Woodley says Season 3 of Big Little Lies will happen eventually

The popular HBO series Big Little Lies may get a third season, according to actress Shailene Woodley. Since the release of the second season of the drama in 2019, Woodley, who played the youngest of the Monterey 5, has been busy. Woodley may be seen in the upcoming horror Misanthrope and the STX legal drama The Mauritanian, in addition to filming for Netflix’s historical romance The Last Letter From Your Lover, which will be released this summer.

Big Little Lies premiered in 2017 and stars Woodley, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern as the Monterey 5 (the show’s five primary female characters). In addition to Adam Scott, Alexander Skarsgrd, and Meryl Streep, the series included an amazing supporting cast.

The first and second seasons are based on the same-named 2014 novel and follow the lives of five women who reside in the beautiful seaside town of Monterey, California. Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, was one of the production companies behind the show, with Witherspoon’s media company serving as one of the producers.

Season 3

In a recent interview with THR, Woodley discussed a variety of personal issues, one of which was her desire to start work on a third season of the acclaimed HBO series. While Kidman hinted to a third season of Lies in a 2020 interview with Marie Claire, the rest of the ensemble has been close until now.

Woodley didn’t state anything was set in stone, but she did remark that it’s just a question of getting everyone’s schedules in order. While the COVID-19 outbreak forced a halt to industry production, fellow cast members appear ready to restart the series. “We’re always asking each other, ‘When are we going to do season three?’ ‘How are we going to make that happen?’ Knock on wood, I’d like to say it’s happening.”

With episodes like The Undoing, starring Kidman, HBO has managed to give audiences a taste of suspenseful material with performers from the show. With eight Emmys under its belt and an average of ten million viewers per episode, Big Little Lies will surely be renewed.

When Streep’s character was added into the mix, the inherent tension that had been building from the beginning of the series reached an all-time high. Given how the second season ended, viewers will be interested to see how the characters’ fates play out when Kravitz’s Bonnie makes her stunning confession.
