Selena Gomez got candid in the new episode of her new cooking show Selena + Chef. The singer opened up while addressing her life under the spotlight.
The singer was making roast chicken and bruschetta with chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo on Thursday’s episode. Jon asked Selena whether she cares about people’s reviews and what they write or think. She answered saying she does not. Selena said it does not help her in any way. The singer added that the things that are helpful for her, is when it comes to her charity work.
Selena explained that she does not really appreciate the attention her personal life gets. She said that the part that frustrates her is when people think of her and think she is that girl who went out with that person. However, she did not take any names, it is no secret that she was in a high-profile relationship before.
Selena has previously been in an on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber from 2011 to 2018. She was also dating The Weekend in 2017 and has been linked to Orlando Bloom, Charlie Puth, and others.
“I would be devastated if people think that because I’ve worked so hard to not be that but to be, you know …” she continued as she started to tear up. “Sorry, I’m getting emotional.” Chef Vinny however, tried to comfort the singer and said knowing that she comes from a place like that makes it so much easier for them to do this now.
Selena has always been open about giving back and that is what she does at the end of the episode. The show always donates $100,000 to a charity of the guests’ choice. Shook and Dotolo picked the NAACP.
In another one of Selena + Chef, her best friend, Taylor Swift makes a cameo. Selena had chef Choi Roy as the guest mentor in that episode. He taught the singer how to make Korean barbecue Texas breakfast tacos. After making the tacos, Selena calls up Taylor to show her the three delicious tacos that were laid beautifully.
Taylor seems amazed as she says ‘Oh my God’ and tells Selena if she doesn’t send her the recipe they will have words. She says she wants to be served that and the two best friends share a hearty laugh. Taylor further says she is very jealous of the whole setup and that they are cooking together.
Chef Choi and Selena joke that they can make her more jealous by eating it in front of her. Selena, later on, wraps up saying she just wanted to show Taylor and that she is very proud. Taylor, being the ultimate best friend shares her emotions. She says, “Do you know how long I’ve been waiting for you to become obsessed with cooking?”
In addition to Selena’s charity work, she has also found the Rare Impact Fund. It is linked to her new beauty line, Rare Beauty, which will be launched by September 3rd. This fund will help individuals in underserved communities get access to mental health services and support.
The aim behind it is to raise “an ambitious $100 million over the next 10 years to help increase access to mental health resources.” For that to happen, one percent of the brand’s sales will go directly to the fund.
