Our favorite girl gang is back. Well, at least most of them. HBO Max announced the official return of Sex and the City which will feature Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis.
They will also be executive producers along with Michael Patrick King. However, the reboot is obviously missing a member played by Kim Cattrall. Sarah shared a video teaser recently with her fans on her social media. She wrote she could not help but wonder where the characters are now.
The clip shows a montage of life in New York City and concludes with the words, “The story continues….” It seemed like it was being typed on a computer screen. Sarah’s voice is also heard as she says, “And just like that” as the clip previews.
The video has nearly 4.5 million views in just 15 hours since sharing. The next sequel of the lifestyle columnist Carrie Bradshaw which is also titled, “And Just Like That..” The story will continue following the three friends which include Charlotte York played by Kristin and attorney Miranda Hobbes played by Cynthia.
The girl gang is now in their 50s as the series will include 10 half-hour episodes. The production will begin in late spring and will not include sexpot publicist Samantha Jones which was played by Kim.
Fans are also less excited as a fan wrote that Sex and the City without Kim Cattrall are like watching porn without sex. The fan described Samantha as the powerhouse of the show. Meanwhile, writer Gerry Stergiopoulos wrote how the show without Samantha is like ‘Snow White and the 7 dwarfs’ without Snow White.
Kim Described As “Scene-Stealer”
The writer added, “‘Sex and the City’ without Samantha is like ‘Snow White & the 7 Dwarfs’ without Snow White. Just the dwarfs…
ps. Don’t you DARE to criticize Kim Katrall [sic] for walking away with grace. Miss @KimCattrall is one of the nicest people I have encountered in my life!”
The feud between the co-stars has been very public for years after the original series ended back in 2004. The series had ended after six years on air as the group went ahead for two sequel films. Both the movies premiered in 2008 and 2010 consecutively. Even since that time, Kim has been pitted against all her three former co-stars.
Sources have claimed that there was tension among the cast as Kim has been described as a “scene-stealer in the best possible sense”. This comes despite Jessica playing the show’s heroine.
Back in 2017, insiders claimed that Kim had been the force behind the end of the third sequel. Jessica had also expressed her disappointment at the outcome. The actress said in a statement, “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script.”
Kim was blamed for the demise of the third sequel. “The answer was always no,” Kim told Piers Morgan during an interview in response to Parker’s 2017 announcement. “I never asked for any money, I never asked for any projects. To be thought of as some kind of diva is ridiculous.”
Jessica also brushed off rumors of any tension between them. After fans expressed their disappointment, the actress also shared their sentiment. A user wrote how happy they are to see Jessica back but they will miss Kim/Samantha. Jessica responded to the fan and wrote, “We will too. We loved her so. X”
Jessia On The Limited Series
Kim had been open on Instagram as well as interviews about the same. Jessica portrayed the protagonist, Carrie Bradshaw, has tried her best to play off the tensions and find a solution. However, Kim seems to be staying strong in her feelings.
Jessica has suggested in the past that a Sex and the City revival could deal with topics like sexual politics on social media and the Times Up and #MeToo movements. Although it is reportedly a limited series, there is a lot of ground to cover.
