Rohit passes Kapil Dev in the list of Most Sixes for India in Test Cricket

India vs England 3rd Test Day 3:

Day 3 of the Headingley Test match saw a record shattered by Rohit Sharma. In the 16th over of the second innings, Rohit hit Robinson for a six over the third man. The six saw Rohit surpass Kapil Dev in the list of most sixes hit by a player for India in test matches. This six was Rohit’s 62nd in Test Cricket, one more than Kapil Dev’s record of 61. The list is headed by the former flamboyant opener of India: Virender Sehwag. Sehwag with 90 sixes to his name heads the list, Dhoni(78) in second, and surprisingly, Sachin Tendulkar(69) in the third spot. Tendulkar was mostly known for his along-the-ground shots but the “Little Master” would also use his feet to hit the spinners for a massive six.

Here’s how the list looks:

Most sixes hit for India in Tests
90 Virender Sehwag
78 MS Dhoni
69 Sachin Tendulkar
62 Rohit Sharma *
61 Kapil Dev

DRS saves KL Rahul

On the fourth delivery of the 9th over, something tricky happened.KL Rahul was on strike and he missed the ball, the ball hitting his pad. After a loud and persistent shout by the bowler and fielders, KL Rahul was given out. Rahul looked hopeless and was ready to walk off the field. But his partner Rohit Sharma forced him to take a chance. And luckily, that chance paid off. The decision looked pretty obvious to the naked eye, “Plumb’ as they call it. Rahul planted his front foot across and tried flicking the inswinger around that, fell over, and missed.

There was no bat on the Ultraedge. Then came in the Ball-tracking. The impact was on the middle and leg, but with the angle, it was going down.

The decision to take the DRS review turned out to be an excellent one.

Sadly, for Indian fans, KL Rahul didn’t stay for long on the pitch. In the 18th over, on the final delivery, Overton being the bowler, Rahul edged the ball off the shoulder of the bat to the right of the first slip. Bairstow dived and took a one-handed catch, dismissing Rahul on 8(54).

Rohit has been a revelation till now. We can see shades of Murali Vijay on the 2014 tour and Rahul Dravid before that in the 2011 tour in him. Excellent awareness of his off-stump, playing close to the body and defending with bat and pad together, giving out the calm assurance that nothing will get me out today. As compact as he has looked since his debut in Tests. Maybe the best phase of his career right now.
