On Thursday, a press conference took place to advertise the final match of iconic wrestler Nature Boy Ric Flair. Flair will face an unidentified opponent on July 31st as part of Starrcast V in Nashville, Tennessee. During the press conference, Flair stated that the idea of Flair wrestling one last time came from his son-in-law, Starrcast promoter Conrad Thompson.
Conrad Thompson is wife to my oldest daughter, Flair said, adding that he was aware of Thompson’s Starrcast conventions but had never been able to attend one. As per Flair, Thompson called him and requested him if he wanted to wrestle one more match, and Flair said he agreed almost immediately. Flair, 73, had three months to prepare for the event. Three months isn’t much time to get ready, but it’s enough, according to the former WCW Champion. Flair has publicly discussed footage on social media of him training in the ring with AEW’s Jay Lethal.
Flair also addressed concerns about his health
Flair hasn’t wrestled since a loss to Sting in Impact Wrestling in 2011. Flair’s retirement was shortened a year later when he travelled Australia with Hulk Hogan, losing every evening of the Hulkamania: Let The Battle Begin Tour. In 2010, Flair signed with TNA, which is now known as Impact Wrestling. Flair went on to say that he would be donating pieces of his robe to an unnamed charity related to what happened to his son, referring to Ric’s son Reid Flair, who died of an addiction in March of 2013.
Ric Flair’s final match is announced, logic dictates that more matches will be required to fill the card once the show takes place on July 31 from Nashville Municipal Arena. As a result, the event, which is being promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions, is beginning to announce other bouts, including a major inter-promotional fight earlier today.
Conrad Thompson, the founder of Starrcast, announced the match on Twitter on Thursday afternoon. A Jim Crockett Promotions Control Center clip showing JCP announcer David Crockett as well as Impact announcer Tom Hannifan is included in the post.
I’VE JUST SIGNED! Thompson used Twitter. Impact Wrestling’s Josh Alexander defends the Impact World Title against MLW’s Jacob Fatu for first TIME EVER on July 31! Ric Flair’s Last Match tickets go on sale Friday at 12 p.m. Only an hour later, Thompson announced a second undercard fight, this time a tag team match, with a video featuring Crockett and Hannifan.
