Rege-Jean Page Speaks Out After Reports He Was Passed Over For ‘Krypton’ Because of Race

Rege-Jean Page seems to be giving us all the answers at once as he addresses the claim that he was denied a key role in Syfy/ DC series, Krypton because of his race.

He tweeted as he shared that hearing about these conversations hurts no less than it did back then. The actor revealed that the clarifications hurt more. He wrote, “Hearing about these conversations hurts no less now than it did back then. The clarifications almost hurt more tbh [to be honest]. Still just doing my thing. (And) Still we do the work. We still fly.”

Rege-Jean did not mention that he was speaking or addressing the Krypton rumors that have been circulating for weeks now. However, the word ‘fly’ that he used in his tweet seemed like an indicator that he was referring to the Superman-centric show. The Bridgerton star’s comments come after his interview with Ray Fisher.

The interview was published yesterday by The Hollywood Reporter. Ray discussed about racism and misconduct on the part of Warner Bros., DC films co-founder Geoff Johns and others during the re-shoots on Justice League. This also focuses on Geoff’s alleged problematic behavior outside of that particular production.

There are rumors that Rege-Jean auditioned for the role of Superman’s grandfather, Seg-El before he made his debut on Bridgerton, this was also because the creators of Krypton expressed their enthusiasm about doing some “non-traditional casting”. But the actor found out he did not make it to be a part of the show.

Geoff reportedly claimed that Superman could not have a Black grandfather after overseeing the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the executive passed on Rege-Jean’s involvement. He also rejected the idea of making superhero Adam Strange gay or bisexual.

Rege Addresses James Bond Rumors

Krypton is set 200 years before Superman’s birth and is created by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler. The story revolves around shedding light on the untold story of the superhero’s grandfather. It will also showcase his fight for justice on his home planet. The role of Seg-El would ultimately go to Cameron Cuffe.

Bridgerton fans are pretty shaken up that Rege-Jean Page will not be a part of the upcoming season of the Netflix hit. The actor opened up about those rumors about him having landed the other iconic role. He spoke with The Mirror in an interview and he was questioned about speculation that he might be in line to replace Daniel Craig and become the next James Bond. The actor said, “Ah, the ‘B’ word”. He explained that he thinks that if a person is British, they do anything that other people take notice of.

Rege-Jean said, “I think that if you are British, and you do anything of note that other people take notice of, then people will start talking about that.” He further added that he thinks it is fairly normal and he is flattered. The actor said, “I think that’s fairly normal, and I’m flattered to be in the category of Brits that people have noticed.”

He was put on the map as the Duke of Hastings in Netflix’s highly popular series. The actor was not keen on revealing anything more about his decision. “Nothing more—or less—than that,” he said. The actor has also revealed that the coronavirus pandemic has made it impossible for him to think about the future.

“We’ll Miss Simon’s Presence Onscreen, But He Will Always Be A Part Of The Bridgerton Family.”

Rege-Jean said,  “I think the concept of having plans at this moment in history is mildly hilarious. So I’ve given up on making them.” On April 2nd, Bridgerton’s official Instagram account posted a statement that announced the departure of the actor. They wrote, “We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.” The actor himself took to his social media handle as he confirmed his departure and called the role the “ride of a lifetime”.

The shocking news of his departure led British media to slash the odds of him becoming the next Bond. He was put next to A-listers like Tom Hardy. Rumors of him becoming the next Bond have been circulating even before the news of his departure.

“If you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the ‘B’ word,” he told Jimmy Fallon in January, echoing his recent remarks to The Mirror. Bridgerton aside, the actor has been filing up his card as he began filming for the next Netflix thriller The Gray Man. He is starring alongside Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling. The actor will also be appearing with Chris Pine and Hugh Grant in a forthcoming Dungeons & Dragons film adaptation. Anyway, there will be other ways to see Rege-Jean flourish.

Rege-Jean’s departure was announced in a typical fashion of the show as a Lady Whistledown society paper. An excerpt from the letter read: “We bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings. We’ll miss Simon’s presence on screen but he will always be part of the Bridgerton family.”
