Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta congratulate Harnaaz Sandhu on winning Miss Universe 2021

Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu of Chandigarh gave millions of Indians reason to rejoice as she was crowned Miss Universe 2021. Harnaaz, who is only 21, aced several rounds on her way to the top three and won with a powerful answer. She became a Twitter sensation almost immediately after India won Miss Universe for the first time in 21 years.

Harnaaz follows in the footsteps of Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta, who both won Miss Universe India in 2000. Priyanka Chopra, the Miss World 2000 winner, turned to social media to congratulate and wish Harnaaz Sandhu. Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to say, “And this is who the new Miss Universe is… Miss India is a young woman from India. @HarnaazSandhu03, congrats… bringing the throne back to the United States after a 21-year absence!”

Lara Dutta also tweeted,  “Congratulations @HarnaazSandhu03!!!! Welcome to the club!!! We’ve waited 21 long years for this!!! You make us SO SO proud!!! A billion dreams come true!!! @MissDivaOrg @MissUniverse.”

On December 12, 2021, Harnaaz was crowned Miss Universe 2021 in the Universe Dome in Eilat, Israel. She has been crowned Miss Universe for the 70th time. The young model competed against 79 other contestants from all around the world, including Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira and Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane, as well as runner-up Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira and second runner-up Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane.

The 21-year-old was born and raised in Chandigarh, where she completed her school and college education. She has also appeared in Punjabi films such as Yaara Diyan Poo Baran and Bai Ji Kuttange, according to reports.
