The Philadelphia 76ers had won their first game against the Raptors in their home. With a 1-0 lead and havig home advantage, the 76ers were looking to further their lead in the series. The Raptors came into this match with the hopes of evening the series so that when they go to their home, they can throw a wrench in the 76ers plans.
The 76ers went with a starting lineup of Tyrese Maxey, James Harden, Tobias Harris, Danny Green and Joel Embiid. The Raptors started with Fred Van Vleet, Gary Trent Jr, OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam and Chris Boucher.
The Raptors won the opening tip and they started with their relentless attacks going 11-2 in the opening minutes. The 76ers then hit their stride and they started to attack the rim. But the Raptors did not fall and they kept up with their offense in spite of being scored on as well.
In the 2nd quarter, the 76ers stepped up their defense putting stops on Van Vleet and Siakam. The game became very physical and the 76ers kept their offense rolling thanks to Tyrese Maxey and James Harden attacking. The 76ers took the lead with a 67-52 scoreline.
The start of the 3rd quarter was a mimic of the 2nd quarter, with the Raptors seemingly struggling to put the ball in the basket. The 76ers made some errors but they were still finding ways to score. Embiid really went to work making good quality shots. Maxey was facilitating the ball and Harris took control of the mid-range.
In the 4th quarter however, the Raptors went on a 20-2 run but that was soon snapped and they could not recover from the score gap that had been widened. The 76ers consistently scored and that was enough for them to take the game.
Joel Embiid led the 76ers in scoring with a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey was the second leading scorer, putting up a near triple-double with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Tobias Harris was extremely physical in the paint as he put up 20 points and 10 rebounds. James Harden was having a slump but he managed to be effective defensively with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steal and 2 blocks.
The Raptors too had 4 players scoring above 15 and 3 players above 20 points. OG Anunoby led in scoring with 26 points on 57% shooting from 3-point. Pascal Siakam had a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Fred Van Vleet put up 20 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Chris Boucher took care of the interior with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Takeaways from Game 2
The 76ers won the game with a scoreline of 112-97. This marks them going 2-0 in the series and now they have some breathing space. The Raptors are however, looking forward to the next 2 games as it will be in the Raptor’s home stadium. They have a possibility to even the series there with 76ers having to miss out some of their players due to vaccine mandate.
