The 7th seed of the Western Conference has been decided! The Los Angeles Clippers will now be fighting for the 8th seed. But they have to wait first for the victor coming up from the match between the New Orleans Pelicans and the San Antonio Spurs.

The Pelicans went with their starting lineup of CJ McCollum, Jonas Valanciunas, Brandon Ingram, Herbert Jones and Jaxson Hayes. The Spurs started with Dejounte Murray, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, Jakob Poeltl and Joshua Primo.

Game Summary

With the opening tip, Gregg Popovich’s Spurs took an 8-2 lead on the Pelicans. The Pelicans soon answered with offence of their own and it was getting a thrilling endeavor for the fans. The Pelicans took over the game completely in the 2nd quarter with CJ McCollum showing why he was on the court.

McCollum was absolutely efficient as he did not miss a single shot in the 2nd quarter. Jose Alvardo came off the bench and went to work immediately shooting 3s after 3s. The Pelicans took the 1st quarter from the Spurs with a scoreline of 61-50.

It seemed like the Pelicans took turns in harassing the Spurs’ defense as once they started focusing on the perimeter, the Pelicans attacked the interior. They fed the ball to Valanciunas who took advantage of the Spurs lacking interior.

The Spurs tied to come back in the 4th quarter playing with their team oriented basketball. However, Brandon Ingram kept the Pelicans afloat and made sure that they did not give up the lead. They succeeded in doing so, claiming the victory.

Herbert Jones efficiently scored 12 points and kept things under check on the defensive end by grabbing 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks.

Devin Vassell scored 23 points and 3 assists. Keldon Johnson put up 15 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds. The Pelicans came with the win over the Spurs with a scoreline of 113-103. They now move on to face the Clippers for the 8th seed in the Western Conference. The victor from that bout will go on to face the in-form Phoenix Suns.
