Paul Rudd is known for his wit and comedy, but he has also made news for his physical makeover in preparation for his role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the upcoming Marvel film. According to recent rumors, the actor found it “pointless” to work out with his co-star Jonathan Majors, who plays the ruthless Kang the Conqueror in the film.
In an interview with The Graham Norton Show, the 2021 PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive stated Majors was “terrifying” and that he tried to bulk up and become in shape but found it futile. He also added that Ant-Man never removes his shirt, so there’s no need to worry about his physique.
Rudd has already acknowledged the difficulties of getting into superhuman form. He previously acknowledged going off his gym program and feeling self-conscious about his body in an interview with Men’s Health. He persisted, however, and eventually got into shape for the picture.
Rudd’s remarks also highlight the pressure that performers endure when it comes to physical appearance, particularly in superhero films. The pressure to have a perfect physique can be overwhelming and have a negative impact on an actor’s mental health.
In addition to talking about his fitness quest; Rudd provided some amusing advice he gave to his Avengers co-star Chris Evans; who was also awarded PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive. He joked that the title came with a lot of duty; and offered to assist Evans in strategizing how to meet the expectations.
