Pakistan Take 3-2 Lead In Last Over Thriller

Pakistan vs England, 5th T20I (N), Lahore, September 28, 2022, England tour of Pakistan

Match Result: Pakistan won by 6 runs

Player of the Match: Mohammad Rizwan

Match Report: Another close encounter between these two sides who never seem to give up. This match again went till the last over, and it was Pakistan this time who held their nerves to secure the victory. Moeen Ali, England captain, kept fighting but it wasn’t enough as Pakistan bowlers showed some quality skills. This series has had all the high-voltage drama, and the Pakistan crowd has turned up in large numbers to support their players.

Batting first, Pakistan were again reliant on one of their openers. Rizwan kept one end steady as wickets kept tumbling on the other end. There were no significant contributions from other batters. The fact that Rizwan faced first ball of the inning and lost his wicket in the eighteenth over is a big testimony to his ability. As far as the England bowlers are concerned, Mark Wood was the pick of them as his lethal pace kept troubling the batters. Sam Curran and Willey accounted for two wickets as well. Adil Rashid was expensive in his spell of four overs.

The second innings began terribly for England as both openers fell cheaply. England have now a longstanding problem with openers not contributing to the team’s total. Dawid Malan played a slow inning in his knock of 36. Moeen Ali took the game deep and almost took the game away from Pakistan. But a brilliant death over bowling display by the youngster Aamer Jamal sealed the deal for the Men in Green.

What The Captains Said:

Moeen Ali: Very good game, disappointed. We are a better team than that. We struggled in the middle, with their spinners who bowled well. We knew it was hard for the bowlers to control with the dew and overnight rain, we needed to hang in there and go hard at the end. Hes amazing. On a real slow wicket, he bowled fast. He is massive for our team.

Babar Azam: Shadab, the way he came back, the way he started was nice to see especially after an injury. The way Rizwan built the innings, the pitch was two-paced and he played well. The confidence of Aamer Jamal was high and he was confident he could do it in that last over.
