Pakistan Settles Score Against India In A High-Scoring Run Chase

Cricket fans were treated to the absolute magic of a game on Sunday. The second clash between India and Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 went right down to the wire just like the previous clash. Except for the fact that Pakistan found themselves on the winning side this time around. The match turned out to be just what was expected from an India-Pakistan contest. The best part was that it was a high-scoring match, so fans were delighted to watch the ball flying around the stadium.

There was one aspect of this game that fans from both countries were happy to see. Virat Kohli found himself among the runs yet again, scoring his second successive fifty of the tournament. Luck was in Pakistan’s favor as Babar Azam won the toss and chose the wise decision to bowl first. India were off to a high-flying start, scoring 50 in less than five overs. But wickets in quick succession, later on, meant that the run rate took a hit. All the big contributions of the innings were from the top 3 batters, as no middle order batter got going.

With the kind of start India got, one can say that they found themselves 10-15 runs short. Nonetheless, in the second innings, India were on the top for the first ten overs until Rizwan and Nawaz charged back. It was a forgetful day for young Arshdeep Singh, who dropped a crucial catch and failed to defend seven runs in the final over. Rohit Sharma venting his frustration over the dropped catch got much attention. The two sides are likely to lock horns again in the final.

What The Captains Said:

Babar Azam: Our effort is to keep it simple. Ups and downs will keep happening. They got the edge the way they utilised the powerplay. But our bowlers made a comeback. Rizwan and Nawaz partnership was the turning point. I had a hunch Nawaz would be key against legspinners (about his promotion).

Rohit Sharma: It’s a high pressure game we know that. You’ve got to be at it every time. A game like that can take a lot. We were calm even when there was a partnership between Rizwan and Nawaz. But that partnership obviously went a little long and they batted brilliantly. Games like this can bring the best out of them if they deliver. These are the games that can make them. They’ve done it in the past. There’s a class in the other team as well. And we’re not surprised with that. We understand the pitch gets slightly better in the second innings. It’s a good learning for us.
