BTS, Coldplay's My Universe Ranks No 1 On Billboard, First Band In History To Have 5 #1 Debuts

On the Oricon Albums Chart, ‘BTS, THE BEST’ sold over a million copies

BTS’ Japanese compilation album, ‘BTS, THE BEST,’ reached 1 million sales on the Oricon Japan list on January 6. Not only is this the first album by a South Korean act to reach this milestone since BoA’s ‘Best of Soul’ in 2005, but it’s also the first time a single album by a foreign male artist has sold more than 1 million copies on the Oricon chart since Queen’s in 2004.

With this feat, BTS became the 14th foreign artist to sell one million albums in the United States. As the only foreign male musicians to accomplish so, the group joins Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Scatman John, The Beatles, and Queen.

Oricon announced this after confirming that ‘BTS, THE BEST’ sold 3,000 copies during the week of December 27, increasing total sales to 1,002,000.

‘BTS, THE BEST,’ the group’s second Japanese-language compilation album, was released on June 16, 2021. BTS’ Japanese studio albums ‘Face Yourself’ and ‘Map of the Soul: 7 – The Journey’ were combined for this album, which debuted at No. 1 on Oricon’s Daily Album Chart with 571,589 physical copies sold in a single day.

On December 22, Oricon also stated that ‘BTS, THE BEST’ was the best-selling physical album of the year from December 14, 2020, to December 12, 2021, according to Oricon. BTS became the first Korean boy band in Oricon history to top the year-end album sales chart. With their recent success, BTS members have achieved Oricon history for the second time in less than a month.

BTS Cancels Activities In U.S.

After the Grammys announced that the awards ceremony would be postponed, K-Pop star group BTS stated that they had cancelled their travel to the United States. “We were preparing to attend the Grammys, but stopped discussing plans after hearing about the postponement,” Big Hit Music told Newsen.

The Grammy Awards have been postponed because of the current outbreak of COVID-19’s Omicron strain. They were originally set for January 31. BTS, who is nominated for Best Pop Duo or Group Performance, was scheduled to attend the ceremony as their first official activity following their hiatus.
