New Era of Indian Cricket : Rohit Sharma – The Captain

Rohit Sharma has been the talk of the town in Indian Cricket over the past couple of months as he takes over as full-time captain in all formats of the Indian Cricket Team. Rohit has been a mastermind in Mumbai Indian’s success leading them to five IPL titles.

He captained the Indian team for the first time in 2017 in the absence of regular captain Virat Kohli. The series in which he successfully lead the Indian team to a 2-1 series win over Sri Lanka and he entered the record books for becoming the second Indian captain to score a double century in ODI’s after Virender Sehwag, where he scored a record-breaking 209 runs against Sri Lanka which was also his third ODI double century and second against the Lankans at Mohali.

Over the last couple of years, Rohit Sharma has been an integral part of team India’s success in the limited-overs and has been vital as Vice-Captain of India.

His performance at the 2019 One day World cup was one of the best performances by an Indian Player in World Cup where he notched up 5 Centuries.

Though Rohit Sharma has captained India for a limited amount of time. He has had a much greater success leading the team to victory on most occasions. His performance as a player while captaining the national team was at a much higher level.

Under his captaincy, the Indian team won the Asia Cup in 2018. He scored 163 runs in the tournament. This was his first multi-national tournament win.

Rohit Sharma has only captained the Indian team in 13 ODI matches. He has won 11 matches and has lost only 2 matches which were against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He has a win percentage of 84.61%.

Rohit’s record in T20Is as captain has been phenomenal. He has led India 28 times in T20Is and has a wonderful record, winning 24 matches and losing only 4 matches. The only series loss that the Indian team suffered under his captaincy was against New Zealand in 2019.

His recent success as captain in 2022 where he led the Indian team to a 3-0 win against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Hitman’s batting record while leading the side has been phenomenal in T20Is where he has scored 712 runs which includes 7 fifties and 2 centuries.

The era of Rohith Sharma as Indian Captain has begun on a winning note and the hitman would like to continue his good run.
