A series of songs by the legendary singer Michael Jackson has been removed from a few streaming devices including Spotify and Apple Music, following a rumor that was heated up previously.
On Tuesday, Sony Music and the Jackson estate provided EW with confirmation that the following tracks from the streaming device Breaking News,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Monster from the 2010 compilation album Michael has been removed in order to put an end to any controversy that is associated with these tracks. The estate has confirmed that this move had nothing to do with the authenticity of Michael Jackson’s original rendition of the music.
“The Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music decided to remove the tracks ‘Breaking News,’ ‘Monster’ and ‘Keep Your Head Up’ as the simplest and best way to move beyond the conversation associated with these tracks once and for all,” said the involved parties in a joint statement.
Further adding to their statement, they also said that their focus is on celebrating Jackson’s work and his great contribution to the music industry. They do not want to be their upcoming projects to be tampered with by any controversial issues that affect their reputation.
The team said “The focus remains where it belongs — on the exciting news and existing projects celebrating Michael Jackson’s legacy… Nothing should be read into this action concerning the authenticity of the tracks — it is just time to move beyond the distraction surrounding them.”
The controversy began in 2014 when a fan filed a lawsuit against Jackson’s estate and Sony asserting that the three songs, which were allegedly recorded two years prior to Jackson’s 2009 cardiac arrest death, do not actually contain his vocals. Michael’s Estate denied the allegations and appealed to the court which ultimately came in their favor and stated that they are not aware of any such work of Michael Jackson which included a fake voice and thus they are not responsible for it.
Further, the authenticity of Michael’s works was investigated by an attorney of the Michaels Estate and he confirmed the news. According to a report by Variety, he said We have complete confidence in the results of our extensive research as well as the accounts of those who were in the studio with Michael that the vocals on the new album are his own.”
As of now to avoid any further controversial issues and drag this conversation further the above-mentioned streamers have removed the tracks Breaking News,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Monster from their platform.
