Michael B. Jordan on Paul Rudd’s Dethronement As Sexiest Man Alive

Last month, Michael B. Jordan was dethroned as People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive by fellow MCU actor Paul Rudd.

Jordan began his acting career on HBO’s The Wire and Friday Night Lights before going on to star in films like Chronicle and Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station.

Jordan quickly rose to fame with his performance as the titular character in Ryan Coogler’s Creed (2015), appearing in everything from Coogler’s Black Panther to Just Mercy. Jordan was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2020.

Jordan is now poised to act in Denzel Washington’s A Journal For Jordan before directing his first film, Creed III (2022). Aside from that, he’s set to star in Danny Boyle’s Methuselah and Ryan Coogler’s Wrong Answer, as well as produce and star in a Val-Zod/Superman series for HBO Max. Jordan appeared to be on top of the world until Paul Rudd, 52, stole the title away from him and was named People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2021, defeating Chris Evans, who was rumored to be the front runner.

Jordan was approached by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest about handing the “Sexiest” mantle to Rudd during a recent visit on Live with Kelly and Ryan (via People). Jordan sarcastically scolded People for casting him aside before falling to that which is, of course, Paul Rudd.

Read what he had to say below:

“I mean, they just throw you out. Like, two weeks ago I was all the rave and now I’m just ‘former Sexiest Man Alive,'” joked Jordan. “Actually, I just woke up to the news. They didn’t give you a heads up, no. It was a little rude, a little disrespectful. But I let it slide because it’s Paul Rudd, so.…”‘

Jordan went on to describe how his friends and family responded when he was crowned Sexiest Man Alive last year, calling it both a blessing and a curse because it makes you a target for memes and GIFS.

When Rudd dethroned Jordan last month, he had a similar opinion, stating he expected his pals to treat him badly. Jordan’s appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan is far from the only amusing reaction to Rudd’s new title. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, former titleholder Ryan Reynolds attributed Rudd’s eternal youth to “his contract with Satan, or he only drinks breast milk from a blue whale or something.”
