The Los Angeles Lakers matched up against the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 4th and last time this regular season. The Timberwolves have won 2 of their last 3 meetings and were looking to finish the series with a winning record. The Lakers were looking for the win to even the series and to get themselves going for the playoffs.
Timberwolves harassing their opponents
The Lakers got brutally manhandled by the Timberwolves as they could not get the lead in the entire game. Karl Anthony Towns was doing whatever he wants on the court as he was bullying Dwight Howard and taking advantage of the Lakers’ lack of size.
Patrick Beverley, who played for the Lakers back in 2017-18, also harassed the defense. Anthony Edwards was lighting it up from beyond the arc and making easy baskets with the Lakers’ defense crumbling.
Towns ended up with 34 points and 8 rebounds. Edwards finished with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Beverley had 18 points and 6 rebounds added to the mix. The biggest difference however was the 3 point shooting as the Timberwolves were 40.5 % from beyond the arc. On the other hand, the Lakers were only 22.2% from the 3-point line.
Lakers’ season over?
The Lakers were falling behind from the start. So, they were relying on their 3 point shooting to narrow the gap, resulting in a lot of 3 pointers being taken instead of shooting mid-range jumpers which they are good at.
None of the Lakers scored 20 point in the entire game. LeBron James scored just 19 points and it can be seen that he is getting frustrated with the team. The loss cannot be blamed on LeBron as he has been carrying the Lakers’ load with no help even though he has All-Star teammates with him.
Russell Westbrook has reached to the point where he has to be traded from the team. He is not playing well at all scoring just 15 pins and making it the 4th game in a row where he has scored 15 points or less. He only has 5 assists and 4 rebounds added to that. When Westbrook is playing it feels like he is lost on the court and on defense he just vanishes.
Most of the fault goes to the coach, Frank Vogel, who has failed to bring any adjustments with the roster. It is understandable that they do not have the personnel in certain positions but that should not stop them from going in hot on the offensive end.
The Timberwolves won the game 124-104. They clinched the season series with a 3-1 win over the Lakers. This is the Lakers 3rd loss in a row. If they lose the next game then they will be pushed down to the 10th seed and they ultimately might be pushed out of the play-in tournament. The Lakers need to find a solution if they want to contend but in my opinion, their season is over.
