Margot Robbie has promised that her upcoming movie will surprise everyone in the best way. The actress is naturally the first choice to cast as a live-action version of Barbie.
Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer have been previously attached to a live-action Barbie adaptation. However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Margot revealed that her new Barbie project will crush the assumptions of the character.
The Birds of Prey alum runs the production company LuckyChap Entertainment with her husband Tom Ackerley. She shared that they like things that are a little left to the center. The actress further added that something like Barbie has a stereotypical image in the minds of people.
She said, “Something like Barbie where the [intellectual property], the name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different—the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”
Margot has brought in her creative team Noah Baumbach and Little Women director Greta Gerwig. This does mean that fans will get to see something a little different from big-budget comedy movies. The actress shared that they can truly honor the IP and the fan base and also maybe surprise fans.
She said, “Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we’re really firing on all cylinders.” The Suicide Squad actress shared the reason why she decided not to star in LuckyChap Entertainment’s Promising Young Woman. It is an upcoming revenge fantasy that stars Carey Mulligan.

The film also features a soundtrack that includes Paris Hilton’s Stars Are Blind. She shared how she thought she will be what people would expect to be cast. The actress shared the interesting thing about the venture as she shared that it will take people by surprise.
She shared, “I just felt like I wouldn’t be that surprising—me doing these kinds of things with people’s perception of who I am and the characters that I’ve played.” Further added that Carey Mulligan is an actress that has this “air of prestige” around her.
Margot added that she has been in period dramas and her in Promising Young Woman would blow people’s minds. It clearly sounds like LuckyChap has a few surprises in store for us.
