Little Mix, a British pop trio, announced on social media on December 2 that they will be taking a break after a decade of hard work. Little Mix fans were taken aback when bandmate Jesy Nelson announced her departure from the group last year.
Following the newest statement, fans have begun to fear that the band as a whole is coming to an end. After their appearance on The X Factor in 2011, the “Sweet Melody” vocalists gained worldwide fame. Since then, they’ve consistently delivered hit albums and songs that have topped the charts.
On Instagram and Twitter, the band announced that they would be taking a “break” from the band. Little Mix needs time to “recharge and work on some other projects,” according to their Twitter statement.
Fans began posting ominous comments on social media, implying that the band might break up. Little Mix promised fans that they would reunite in the future, but now is the time for them to separate for a while. The following is an excerpt from one of their social media posts:
“We wanted to let you all know that after the Confetti tour in April/May next year we are going to be taking a break from Little Mix. We can’t thank you enough for your love and never-ending support since the beginning. We love you all SO much.”
Their statement went on to say: “We are not splitting up – Little Mix are here to stay 💫 We have plans for more music, tours and performances in the future. We’ve made so many incredible memories with you all, and we can’t wait to make so many more.”
Despite Little Mix’s assurances that they will return to make new songs, many remain sceptical of the band’s ability to stay together. The group launched their first greatest hits CD, Between Us, on November 12th, earlier this year, in honour of the group’s ten-year milestone. There were 18 classic songs on the album, as well as five new recordings.
Meanwhile, Jesy Nelson was a member of Little Mix for nine years, with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and Perrie Edwards, until she left in December 2020 after suffering a panic attack while filming the music video for Sweet Melody, 2020 hit single.
