Breaking records isn’t something new for LISA of BLACKPINK, who is currently one of the most famous artists in the world right now. Before 2021, LISA was only known as one of the members of the world-famous, record-breaking k-pop group BLACKPINK. But in September of last year, LISA created a new and special identity for herself, as Lalisa the soloist. Lalisa the soloist has been just as much, if not more, successful as BLACKPINK’s LISA. Her hit single money which has almost 700M views on youtube and over 500M streams on Spotify, has been everywhere ever since its release.
Even though money proved to be more successful in the long run, the title track from LISA’s solo debut single album has also accomplished a lot and created and broke many records. The most recent record that it achieved has social media buzzing with “Congratulations Lisa”.
In its most recent achievement, the song has managed to reach #1 on iTunes in 102 countries. The only other song by a female artist that has achieved that is HELLO by Adele which was released 7 years ago.
The album titled LALISA was released on Sept 10, 2021. With 736,221 copies sold in its first week, the physical version broke the record for the most first-week sales among all female artists and debuted at the top of the Gaon Album Chart. The Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) awarded it a double platinum certification in November 2021 for selling 500,000 album-equivalent copies. However, YG Ent is yet to update the final count of LALISA album sales.
LISA is currently busy promoting BLACKPINK’s latest album BORN PINK and also at the same time preparing to go on a world tour with her group in October. Lisa recently became the first ever K-pop soloist to win a VMA.
