Lili Reinhart, star of Riverdale, talks up about her mental health difficulties

Lili Reinhart is addressing her body image and mental health head-on. “I’ve been struggling with obsessive thoughts about my body/weight for the last few months and it’s gotten pretty severe in the last week,” the Riverdale star, 25, wrote in a series of Instagram Stories before revealing, “I’ve been struggling with obsessive thoughts about my body/weight for the last few months and it’s gotten pretty severe in the last week.”

She continued, “with the hope that those of you who are also struggling don’t feel so alone,” she said she wanted to be “vulnerable and reveal” her inner battle. She added, “I’m here with you.” “It’s difficult to look at your body with love rather than criticism. It’s a talent I’m still developing.” Reinhart went on to talk about how Hollywood has influenced her self-image, according to US Weekly. “I didn’t imagine working in an industry obsessed with women’s [sic] bodies and weights would impact my own body acceptance and positive… “However,” she continued. “I regret growing up in a time when the media glorified just one size of women.”

“I know my body deserves equal love and admiration at any size,” she stated, adding, “I know my body deserves equal love and admiration at any size.” She concluded by urging her fans to “Continue to discuss it. Normalize the situation. Empathize with others around you. Feel compassion and goodwill to others.” Reinhart has previously spoken out about her concerns, most recently in February 2020, when a fan chastised the Riverdale cast for portraying teenagers with “perfectly chiseled bodies,” according to US Weekly.

The Ohio native revealed at the time that she had gained weight due to sadness, but she thought it was her responsibility to be strong and confident in herself through her Riverdale scenes.” Reinhart previously refuted pregnancy rumors while dating co-star Cole Sprouse in May 2018. (The couple dated on and off from 2017 until 2020.)
