After BLACKPINK making a public appearance at the British Embassy yesterday and releasing an OT4 Magazine Photoshoot with Rolling Stone, fans were sure that YG Entertainment, the company that manages the group, will be releasing a statement regarding the imminent Blackpink comeback any day now. But when YG did release a statement today, it wasn’t about BLACKPINK but their boy group Treasure, who according to statement will be having their second comeback of the year in summer.
YG revealed that Treasure is working on a new album with a summer comeback in mind, and that their title song has already been decided. It’s expected to be a special release as the group’s second anniversary is coming up in August, and there’s also a possibility for a concert in Korea before their Japanese arena tour at the end of this year.
YG also revealed that TREASURE will temporarily be promoting as 10 members without Bang Ye Dam and Mashiho. Bang Ye Dam is said to be focusing on studying music to further his career as a producer, while Mashiho will be taking an extended break in Japan with his family due to health issues.
“We always put in effort to support our artists’ growth, but we consider the members’ health to be the top priority. We decided to give longer breaks for the two members after adequate discussion with the TREASURE members, so we ask for generous understanding and support from fans.” YG said in the statement.
Fans of the internationally-acclaimed and famous kpop GG BLACKPINK were understandably upset with the news as they believe it’s unfair that blackpink hasn’t received the opportunity to release new music for almost 2 years now. BLACKPINK’s last song together (Lovesick Girls) was released on Oct 2 in 2020 and their hiatus has now lasted for over 600 days now.

Even most TREASURE fans are not happy with the announcement and are saying that they do not want an OT10 comeback and that YG should wait for all 12 Treasure members to reunite and let BLACKPINK comeback first.
BLACKPINK members have been teasing a comeback since the beginning of this year, but there hasn’t been any word from YG regarding the same. The member JISOO is also expected to make a solo debut this year. Jennie in her Rolling Stone Interview revealed that BLACKPINK is currently preparing a comeback and gearing up for a world tour.
