Kristin Cavallari is breaking her silence for the first time since her shocking announcement of separating from her husband, Jay Cutler.
Back in April, the estranged couple made the announcement of ending their seven-year-long marriage, shocking everyone. The couple had just returned from their vacation in Hawaii, with their kids. The Very Cavallari stars seemed to be #CoupleGoals in the public eye but unfortunately, the reality was quite different.
Kristin revealed that she thought it was interesting when people would refer to them as ‘couple goals’. She told People in an interview on September 23. She said, “I was like, ‘If you guys only knew.”
The couple had a very private wedding, however, in recent months, fans could have seen strain in their relationship. It included custodial arrangements for their kids to marital misconduct. Kristin said they kept a lot of stuff private, as she referred to their image on the show.
She said, “Producers saw stuff, but they didn’t put it in the show — which is good, because I don’t want my kids to ever [see that].” The star also admitted that her separation from her now estranged husband did not happen overnight. Kristin revealed that the couple tried to make things work. “We tried really, really hard for years and years,” she said. “It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made.”
After making the announcement of divorce, the former couple fraught in a legal back-and-forth. However, Kristin says both of them have agreed to a solid co-parenting routine. The duo had met each other back when Kristin was 23. She describes herself as a baby when she met him.
“He’s going to be in my life forever”
The Hills star said she still cares about Jay and talks to him every day. “We have three kids together,” she adds, referring to their sons Camden, 8, Jaxon, 6, and daughter Saylor, 4. “He’s going to be in my life forever.”
Kristin talked about the reason the couple fell apart and said the biggest factor was growing pains. The star said Jay and her had so much love for each other but they grew up. She explained, “When you work at something for so many years and nothing’s changing, I think you have to just make a decision. We all want to be happy.”
However, despite her separation, Kristin does not regret and is looking forward to the future. She said she is proud of making the decision of separating and feels like the whole world is open. “I feel like my whole world is opening up now because of it, and I’m just feeling the best I’ve felt in a really long time,” she expressed. “I’m really excited about the future all around.”
After three seasons of her hit show, Very Cavallari, the star says she is relieved that it ended. She said, “I just knew I was going to have to talk about everything, and I didn’t want to. Thinking about filming was giving me anxiety.”
Kristin said her kids are the most important thing to her and she thinks not doing the reality show is the best thing for them. She said not having to talk about divorcing their dad is the ideal thing to do. Without the pressures of filming a show, and with a new executive team in place at Uncommon James, Cavallari is finally able to take a breath.
“A year ago I felt like I was drowning,” says the Laguna Beach alumna. “That’s not to say I don’t have really hard days, but for the past however many years, I’ve been putting everybody else first. I’m going to focus on me for a minute, look inward, and figure out what I ultimately want out of life.”
The star talked about finding her rhythm as a single mother. She said she wants to be a strong and the best mother for her kids. Kristin admitted that three kids are a lot but says now that their time is split, she appreciates it more. She said, “Every moment that I have with them I just want to love on them and be with them.”
Kristin is releasing her new cookbook called True Comfort on September 29.
