Kiara Advani Speaks About Comedies Says: “Unfortunately, You Can’t Compare What Male Co-stars Get to Do”

Actress Kiara Advani opens up on the comedy films. The actress says that it is very rare for a female protagonist to be the part a heavy lifting comedy films and do heavy comedy, as most of the jokes and the punches are reserved for the male characters in the film. Kiara made her debut back in 2014, and as of now she has featured in two comedy films, one is 2019 hit ‘Good Newwz’ and the other one is her upcoming movie which is  a mix of horror and humour titled as ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.’

The female characters in the Hindi comedy films are mostly shown as the passive participants until and unless it is a rare female-led genre film like ‘Queen’ or ‘Tanu Weds Manu.’ Kiara agrees that there is a plenty of scope for women to do more.

The ‘Guilty’, actress opened up about her thought and told “It’s very rare that a female protagonist adds a punch. I am still craving to do that. I’m part of these films, they all have had an interesting arc to the characters. But if I’ve to compare it to what your male protagonist is doing (in the film), then you just can’t compare.”

The actress who has delivered a series of successful movies such as ‘Kabir Singh’, ‘Guilty’ and ‘Shershaah’, said the fact that female actors can’t compare with what their male counterparts get to do in comedies is because sometimes “unfortunately that’s how (the script) is written”.

The actress further added, “It definitely does disappoint. Maybe now’s the time you start speaking up and telling your director that you want more. Maybe now I will start doing that going forward.”

The actress believes that the genre of comedy is a difficult one to crack and it even at times doesn’t achieves the credit which it deserves. During the filming of ‘Good Newwz’, the actress reveals and credits on learning the tricks of comedy from co-stars Akshay Kumar and Diljit Dosanjh. The actress further said that she was fortunate that she had equally proficient actors in comedy, from Kartik Aaryan, and Rajpal Yadav to Sanjay Mishra in ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.’

‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’, is all set to release on May 20, and  is a sequel of 2007 comedy horror film, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and was helmed by Priyadarshan.
