Katie Stevens – Rise To Fame

Versatile, vibrant and bold are the adjectives that will come to mind when talking about this star. She has established herself as Hollywood’s most sought-after talent. This time, on ‘Rise to Fame’, let us look at everybody’s best friend, the bold type, Katie Stevens.

Early Life

Katie Stevens’ real name is Katherine Mari Stevens and she was born on December 8, 1992. She is an American actress and singer and is most popularly known for coming in eighth place on the ninth season of American Idol. And of course, how can we forget her fan-favourite roles on Freeform’s ‘The Bold Type’ and ‘Faking It’.

Katie grew up in Connecticut and is the daughter of Mark and Clara Stevens. Ever since she was three, Katie was interested in singing. She gave her first stage performance at the age of five when she sang the national anthem in the presence of politicians. Katie was also active in her local theatre community and aspired to make her career in performance arts grow when she was a teenager.

She had graduated from high school back in 2010 and was named Westbury Outstanding Teen in 2009 at the Greater Watertown Scholarship Pageant. Katie was an active student as she was in the swim team for four years, making her a highly skilled swimmer. She played pivotal roles in various plays and proved that she was a versatile actress. Though, her life changed when she participated in American Idol at the age of 16.

Rise to Hollywood

Katie gained a lot of attention after taking part in the ninth season of the popular reality tv show, American Idol. She was merely 16 at that time and was praised for her skills as a singer. Katie came in eighth place in that season of the reality tv show. During her time on the show, Katie was criticized a lot for her choice of songs, her pitch and her age, but her raw talent was never questioned. Even after she was eliminated from the show, her popularity remained intact and she also participated in American Idol Live Tour.

There was a period of time where she was in self-doubt after her elimination from American Idol. She had decided that she would temporarily quit music and she was soon running out of money. Her parents encouraged her to take a job and she worked at Sprinkles Cupcakes and felt ashamed at the time.

Post her rise to fame as a singer in American Idol, she appeared in various talk shows as a guest. As of 2010, Katie had written nine songs and was an exceptionally talented performer. After showcasing her talent as a singer, she turned to acting, which was her passion when she was a kid as well.

She was then roped in to play the title role in Todrick Hall’s YouTube sensation, Beauty and the Beat. Although she entered Hollywood already with her participation in the reality show, her various performances, and her role in Todrick Hall’s venture, her debut was in 2013 as she starred in the musical film, Bare: A Pop Opera.

Katie was seen in a small role in the movie, Friends and Romans. She received her big break in 2014, as she was cast as the main lead in the romantic comedy series, Faking It. The series was a super hit as it received favourable reviews and ran for three seasons. Katie was finally established as a talented actress after her lead role in the venture.

Katie appeared in several other ventures after the show. She played a role in the movie Immorality as Lindsey Willows in 2015 and landed another fan-favourite role in The Bold Type in 2016. She played the lead role as Jane Sloan in the series which ran for five seasons.

Awards

Katie Stevens was nominated in 2018 in Imagen Foundation Awards for Best Actress- Television for her role in The Boly Type. She won the Teens Choice award for Choice TV: Breakout Show for her role in Faking It. Katie also won Women’s Image Network Awards for Best Actress- Comedy Series for her role in The Bold Type.

Personal Life

As for her personal life, Katie married her longtime beau, musician, Paul DiGiovanni back in 2019. When she was only 26 years old, Katie was already developing a reputation as a noteworthy philanthropist. One of her most significant endeavors has been helping in the formulation of the Evan Gagnon Memorial Scholarship Fund. It is a charitable foundation that provides college scholarships to the seniors of her old stomping ground, Pomperaug High School.

Katie Stevens is an established singer, however, she is underrated when it comes to acting. She has proved to be a versatile actress as well as a singer with her career and immense talent.
