Karan Johar to host Bigg Boss OTT: ‘It’s my mother’s dream come true’

Karan Johar is set to hose Bigg Boss OTT. For the past few days, names like Sidharth Shukla, Farah Khan, Rohit Shetty were all doing the rounds. However, it has now been revealed that the most popular show will be hosted by Karan.

He will be hosting the digital mini version of the show. The filmmaker has jumped into the shows of longtime host, Salman Khan for the special series. Bigg Boss OTT will be premiering on August 8th on Voot. Reportedly, the decision to air the reality series on the web is to make it sassier and spicier.

Unless you have been living under a rock, you would know Karan is known to be a conversationalist. He already hosts his own show Koffee With Karan and by that, we all know he loves to gossip which fitted perfectly well to be the host of the OTT show. According to a source, Karan thoroughly enjoys Bigg Boss and the fact that it will include a younger audience also excites him to come on board.

Since this is on OTT, the commitment is shorter and it will be more feasible to him as he is set to start filming for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. Karan is already familiar with the hosting duty as he has hosted multiple seasons of Koffee With Karan. He has even hosted the dating show, What The Love! which premiered on Netflix back in 2020.

“…it will surely be Over the Top. It’s my mother’s dream come true.”

The filmmaker has also judged various reality shows and hosted award shows as well. Karan talked about hosting Bigg Boss OTT and shared that he and his mom are huge Bigg Boss fans and would not miss it. He said, “As a viewer, it keeps me hugely entertained with dollops of drama. For decades now, I have always enjoyed hosting shows and now with Bigg Boss OTT… it will surely be Over the Top. It’s my mother’s dream come true.”

Karan has also promised that the OTT version will be more sensational and dramatic. He added that he hopes to live up to the audience and his friends’ expectations. The filmmaker said, “I hope I can live up to the audience’s and my friends’ expectations, make Weekend Ka Vaar with the contestants an enjoyable affair in my own style and up the ante on the entertainment quotient.”

This season of Bigg Boss OTT will have different influencers, social media stars and some celebrities as contestants. It will not be the usual hour-long episode, but instead, viewers will get to see their journey 24×7 live on the streaming platform. And Endemol will as usual be producing the digital version too.

Salman had released the trailer of Bigg Boss OTT a few days back. The actor had also revealed he is looking forward to the digital version and the new format. He has also shared some advice for the contestants this time.

The actor said, “It’s great that this season of Bigg Boss will be digital-first with Bigg Boss OTT, 6 weeks ahead of television. The platform will see unparalleled interactivity where the audience will not only get entertained but also participate, engage, give tasks and more – It’s truly for the people and by the people. My advice to all contestants is to be active, entertaining and conduct themselves well in BB”.

The makers of the show are still discussing the final terms with the contestants. According to reports, Divya Agarwal and Ridhima Pandit have signed the contract. Bigg Boss OTT will launch on August 8 and stream for six weeks on Voot. A few of the top performers will then get a chance to be on the main show — Bigg Boss 15 that will air on Colors.
