Kanye West’s Fifth Divorce Lawyer ‘quits’ as Kim Kardashian Split Proceedings Continue

After filing to be dismissed due to an unresolvable split with the rapper, Kanye West’s fifth divorce lawyer has now formally left the case. Samantha Spector, West’s legal representative, was fired on Friday, per TMZ.

Spector was scheduled to formally withdraw at a time next week during a trial-setting session with Kanye and his ex-wife Kim Kardashian on Friday, but the court ultimately decided to approve it today. According to TMZ, the judge warned the court that unless Kanye resolved the outstanding concerns and turned in his financial disclosures, the matter will go to trial in December.

‘If Kanye ghosts everyone,’ TMZ writes, ‘then in all probability when the case comes before the judge in December — Kim will get whatever she wants.’

The Blast reported in May that an attorney from Pennsylvania who wasn’t a divorce lawyer would represent Kanye in his split from Kim while Spector’s papers to withdraw was being processed.

Spector was employed by West earlier this year after his contentious breakup with the reality star. Spector has previously worked as a celebrity agent for Amber Heard and Dr. Dre’s ex-wife Nicole Young. According to TMZ, West has changed lawyers five times in the case, not counting Spector. According to TMZ’s March story, West fired Chris Melcher, the case’s previous attorney, before Spector took over. At the time, insiders informed the source that West had been inconsistent in his interactions with Melcher, at times seeking a settlement and other times seeking to challenge her in court.

Kardashian’s attorney Laura Wasser said that West had been “strategically” changing attorneys at the time he shifted from Melcher to Spector in an effort to delay the divorce proceedings, according to Mirror.

Why Are Kim & Kanye Getting Divorced?

After being married to West for more than six years, Kardashian filed for divorce from him in February 2021. Since last autumn, she has been seeing comedian Pete Davidson, 28. The couple, who are parents to sons Saint, 6, and Psalm, 3, as well as girls North, 9, and Chicago, 4, had a tense co-parenting arrangement not so long ago, but they are now allegedly in a much better position.

‘Kim and Kanye have been coparenting very well as of late,’ a source told Us Weekly in a story published Thursday. ‘They are very civil with each other right now, there are no issues. They are both treating each other with mutual respect.’

Laura Wasser, the attorney for Kardashian, claimed at the time that West had been “strategically” changing attorneys in an effort to drag out the divorce proceedings. According to insiders who spoke to TMZ, West has been inconsistent in his interactions with Melcher, at times seeking a settlement and other times seeking to take Kim to court. North, nine, Chicago, four, Saint, six, and Psalm, three, are the four children that Kim and Kanye have together.
