Kanye West has again successfully stirred the internet by making a rather bold fashion statement. He was donning a t-shirt with the phrase, “White Lives Matter” written on it. This caused quite a stir as people were shocked by his choice of clothing, as a result, many users took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
The rapper took the stage during Yeezy’s fashion show in Paris. He was showing off his new Season 9 collection to the audience. Kanye “Ye” West was wearing a t-shirt with the Pope’s face on the front and paired it with bedazzled flip-flops.
It was unbearable with just Kanye wearing the hate slogan t-shirt but that was not all. Even conservative commentator Candace Owens was wearing the same t-shirt with the hate slogan. For people who are wondering, ‘what is the big deal?’ let me tell you something.
This problematic phrase was something adopted by neo-Nazi white supremacist groups in response to the huge ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement. The phrase came into being around the same time when All Lives Matter became popular. This was coined as a hate term by the anti-defamation league.
Ye referred to his ex-wife’s 2016 robbery, wearing the problematic t-shirt. He was referred to his fallout with Gap and former manager Scooter Braun. The rapper went as far as to say, “I am Ye, and everyone here knows that I am the leader… You can’t manage me.”
Even a few models in the show were wearing the same phrased t-shirt along with Kanye and Candace. Naturally, people were disappointed with Kanye’s latest stint. They found it disrespectful especially coming from a Black artist who is showcasing his support for white supremacists.
Not Ye’s First Time Offending The Internet
Users went online to share their opinion and stated how difficult it is to defend Kanye anymore. A user shared that Kanye wearing that sweatshirt means grabbing popcorn and settling in for tantrums the left will have for a week or so. Another user was disgusted as they pointed out that this showcases Kanye’s anti-blackness and his immersion in white supremacy ideologies.
A user pointed out how it was not long ago that Kanye was blaming the Kardashians for corrupting his black children. The user added that now he goes on to wear this shirt which is confusing. Unfortunately, this is not the first time the rapper is sharing his political opinions through fashion.
In 2020, he was donning Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again cap as well as a hat 2018. The rapper even left the Black community displeased by saying that slavery in the US sounds like a choice.
