Before the filming of season 3 began of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Joshua Bassett unfollowed his co-star Olivia Rodrigo on Instagram. High School Musical: The Series, a spin-off of the famous Disney Channel original film High School Musical, debuted on Disney+ on November 8, 2019.
The series follows the theatre club at East High School as they prepare to stage High School Musical: The Musical. The series, which stars Rodrigo, Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, and Larry Saperstein, is set in a high school theatre club and covers the friendships, relationships, problems, and achievements that come with being a member.
Season 3 of HSMTMTS will begin filming later this month. Many of the original cast members will reprise their roles in the series, including Rodrigo, who just confirmed her return despite reports that she would not. After expressing anger toward one another, news of Bassett and Rodrigo’s imminent reunion on the set of season 3 piqued interest.
Fans have long speculated that the two were embroiled in a nasty love triangle that inspired Rodrigo’s song “Drivers License,” despite neither celebrity actually confirming it. Bassett claimed the two haven’t spoken in a long time, and he recently hinted at a rift between them.
The actor appears to have unfollowed Rodrigo on Instagram shortly before High School Musical: The Series began filming, according to Pop Crave. Viewers reacted quickly to the observation, with some blasting Bassett for the gesture and others dismissing it as inconsequential. Individuals unfollowing one other on social media isn’t uncommon, but the unfollowing, paired with the suspicions surrounding the two, has sparked speculation about season 3 and whether filming will be awkward for the two.
Bassett claimed he hadn’t spoken to Rodrigo since “Drivers License” came out
Since the start of HSMTMTS, a lot has changed for both Bassett and Rodrigo. Rodrigo has had a lot of success in her singing career, and her album Sour catapulted her to popularity. Her debut track, “Drivers License,” spent weeks at the top of the charts and piqued the interest of fans of High School Musical: The Series. The song is said to be about Rodrigo and his co-star, Angela Bassett, who was supposed to have dated and split up.
Bassett claimed he hadn’t spoken to Rodrigo since “Drivers License” came out, which was the closest any of them came to comment about the reported romance. There was no explanation given for the lack of communication, but the unfollowing suggests that the two are still at odds.
It’s never easy to figure out what unfollowing on social media entails. It could be an indication of someone moving on, disconnecting, or simply cleaning up their follower list. Bassett’s unfollowing could be a sign of animosity between the two, or it could simply be the normal separation of two friends. Rodrigo’s rise in her singing career, similar to her High School Musical: The Series counterpart, entails more trouble juggling her acting career. Rodrigo’s transition to a new stage in her life may have resulted in them not speaking for a year and unfollowing them other.
The timing of the unfollowing, on the other hand, raises questions about whether the accusations are true or if Bassett and Rodrigo are merely capitalising on the attention the rumours have generated. Whatever the unfollowing means, Rodrigo and Bassett will hopefully be able to see past any obstacles and continue to enjoy their time on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as season 3 filming begins.
