Johnny Depp’s Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard Delayed Due to COVID-19

Johnny Depp took to his social media to thank his fans after his defamation lawsuit was postponed.

The lawsuit of $50 million against Amber Heard was postponed from January 11, 2021, to May 3, 2021. It was postponed by Circuit Chief Judge Bruce White in Fairfax County, Virginia due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to Deadline.

Judge Bruce virtually informed that the Virginia Supreme Court has not authorized them to conduct jury trials. Johnny has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife for an op-ed she wrote to The Washington Post claiming to be a domestic violence victim.

The actor took to his social media to post a video of him writing on his desk addressing his fans for their support. He captioned the video and wrote that he wanted to thank all the fans for their constant support. The actor said, “I just wanted to thank you all once again for your constant and loyal support throughout many long and interesting episodes of my life… I am only here because of you — and I’m only here for you!!!”

Johnny concluded thanking them once again and sending his love. He had requested earlier this year for the trial to be delayed because it would clash with him filming for the next Fantastic Beasts movie.

The actor had requested that the trial be pushed from January to March and June of next year. After just a few days of Johnny’s request, Amber opposed his request. She claimed if his request was granted, it would interrupt her shooting schedule for Aquaman 2.

Depp and Heard met on the film set of The Rum Diary in 2011. They began living together the following year before marrying in Los Angeles in February 2015.

Heard obtained a domestic violence restraining order against Depp in LA shortly after the couple split in 2016. She later donated her $7million US dollars (£5.5 million) divorce settlement to charity.

Heard faced questioning over 14 allegations of domestic violence that she made against Depp. However, all the allegations were denied by Depp during the first week of the libel claim.

Heard began her three days of giving evidence at the Royal Courts of Justice. In a written statement, she accused Depp of physical and verbal abuse towards her. She alleged: ‘Some incidents were so severe that I was afraid he was going to kill me, either intentionally or just by losing control and going too far.’

In another discussion about their fight, Depp said Heard was out of control and looking for a fight. At one point Sasha Wass says Heard accused him of cheating because of which they fought. The court noticed an alleged pattern of jealousy in Depp.

Depp agreed to not feeling good about James and Heard working together. Although he said the jealousy ignited because Heard called him “creepy and rapey”.

Depp claims that Heard said he was aggressive in his approach towards her. He further told the court, “She told me many things that were very, very negative about Mr. Franco, and that he had tried to kiss her and made sexual advances towards her”. Depp claims this ignited his jealousy because Heard was suddenly friendly and happy with him.

Heard denied describing Franco in that way and Franco also responded saying it is untrue. The trial will go on for three weeks, and Heard will ultimately take the stand.

The court was expected to hear from witnesses on Depp’s behalf including his ex-girlfriends Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder. However, the court decided not to call them in for witnessing and stuck to the written statements that they have already provided. Their statements deny Amber’s accusations, calling Johnny the kindest man they have come across.

Everything Johnny Depp Wasted His Money On

Depp sued NGN and Dan Wootton over the publication of an article on April 27 2018 with the headline: ‘Gone Potty: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?’ The decision of the trial against The Sun still awaits judgment, which is anticipated to be announced this month.
