The defamation trial is getting a lot of attention as expected and is currently on a one-week break. It will resume on May 16 in Fairfax, Virginia. Both Heard and Depp will return to the witness stand along with more witnesses.
Heard will be cross-examined and also finish her testimony after resuming. Meanwhile, Depp is also expected to return to the stand as a witness for the defense. Depp filed for defamation for $50 million against Amber. He claimed an op-ed she wrote claiming to be a victim of domestic abuse has wrecked Depp’s reputation.
Meanwhile, Heard has countersued Depp for $100 million after obtaining a restraining order. After the trial resumes, Amber Heard’s sister, Whitney Heard Henriquez, and actress Ellen Barkin are expected to take the stand.
They have both previously testified as witnesses for Heard during Depp’s libel lawsuit in 2020. Barkin had dated Depp back in the 1990s and she testified that Depp threw a wine bottle across the hotel room. However, the actor has denied the accusation stating Ellen held a grudge against him.
Whitney had also testified to seeing bruises on Heard’s face during their relationship. However, as the LAPD officers, they were called to the LA penthouse in 2016 claiming of domestic violence but did not find anything regarding the same.
Heard has already testified that Johnny swung at her sister, Whitney when she tried to resolve a fight between the couple.
“[Whitney’s] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her. And I swung at him. In all of my relationships to date with Johnny, I hadn’t landed a blow. And I, for the first time, hit him, like, actually hit him. Square in the face. He didn’t push my sister down the stairs,” Heard claimed on Thursday, May 5.
It remains uncertain if other witnesses on Heard’s list like James Franco and Elon Musk will make it to the stand.
