John Cena is open to the idea of repeating his role as Jakob Toretto, the brother of Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto in the Fast & Furious franchise, in a new film.
As the latest foil for Dom and his team, Cena makes his Fast debut in 2021’s F9. The startling discovery that Dom has a brother and that his brother is involved in high-tech international crime upended much of what viewers thought they knew about the Fast and Furious franchise and its characters’ subplots.
Now it appears that the WWE superstar wants to continue the story
John Cena and F&F 10
Despite the fact that Jakob Toretto had never been referenced in previous films, he was retconned into F9 as Dom and Mia Toretto’s estranged brother (Jordana Brewster). In the film, he collaborated with Charlize Theron, who reprised her character as the criminal mastermind Cipher, in a scheme to take the power of the world’s weapons systems. While he spends the majority of the film as a villain, when his cohorts betray him at the end, Jakob ends up helping Dom and his squad. Despite their clashes in the first two acts, Jakob, like Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw, becomes an ally of the Fast group by the film’s end, leaving the door open for him to return in the future installments. The actor appears to be eager.
Cena is now on a press tour to promote HBO’s Peacemaker, and one of his stops was Good Morning America. He was asked if he’d be interested in returning for the next part of the Fast franchise by host Michael Strahan. Cena, dressed in his Peacemaker costume, stated that he would be happy to return for another film and is simply waiting to be asked.
Take a look at what he has to say below:
I can tell you this: you probably won’t see me in Fast 10 dressed like [Peacemaker], but I really hope you see me in Fast 10. I know they’re gearing up for production and I would love nothing more than to return to the franchise. I’m a big fan myself.
While Cena is excited to return to the Fast and Furious franchise, that cannot be true for all of the franchise’s prior stars. Since the former’s series debut in 2011’s Fast 5, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has had a notoriously tense relationship with Vin Diesel. He has decided not to return for Fast and Furious 10.
